Welcome & Schedule

Kia ora koutou! The NZ Hydrological Society welcomes you to their annual technical workshop to be held in sunny Ahuriri/ Napier and online from the 28th to the 31st of March 2023. This year’s technical workshop theme is ‘Monitoring challenges and innovation during a global pandemic’.  This theme captures the trials and tribulations many of us have faced over the past 3 years trying to navigate and respond to new ways of working driven by the COVID-19 pandemic. We encourage presenters to explore the challenges they have faced and showcase the Kiwi number 8 wire ingenuity that has helped our profession adapt and continue delivering throughout such a turbulent time.

Contributing to this uncertainty and turbulence is the significant crossroads we currently find ourselves in with regards to the government’s Essential Freshwater reforms and how these will impact freshwater monitoring scientists. To delve into this further, we have lined up a great keynote speaker to discuss these regulatory changes and how these changes will impact on field practitioners.

This year our inaugural data workshop will be held alongside the long-standing gauging regatta. Those attending the data workshop will participate in open forum discussions focusing on:

  • Shared challenges and opportunities

  • Data collection & processing innovations

  • Data delivery innovations

Our thoughts go out to those dealing with the widespread devastation over the last few weeks, especially those who have lost loved ones.

We have had a response from the venue and they will be up and operating again very soon.

The venue has also spoken to the 'City' and they have confirmed that the regional infrastructure is able to provide for visitors as well as residents, and there is support from Napier City Council for the workshop to take place in March.

The workshop will be going ahead as planned.

We apprentice your patience on this matter and are pleased to confirm that the workshop will remain in Napier and the dates are still 28-31 March 2023.

We look forward to seeing you all there!
